These exclusive courses are curated specifically for Summer Academy and to get students prepared for the upcoming full-time semester of college courses.
Summer Academy Seminar (1 Credit)
The Summer Academy Seminar is a one-credit course included within the Seton Hill Summer Academy. Success skills and learning opportunities will be provided to strengthen the transition from high school to college learning.
Mathematics Principles and Applications (2 Credits)
Students will develop and apply critical-thinking skills and mathematical strategies to solve quantitative problems found across multiple disciplines including business and science and in real-world applications. This introductory course gives students practice on both new and familiar mathematics concepts in preparation for future coursework. Topics include arithmetic operations on the real number system, algebraic concepts, quantitative relationships, and data exploration.
Transitioning to College Writing and Reading (2 Credits)
Students reinforce basic writing and reading competencies learned previously and explore how this knowledge transfers to skills essential for writing and reading at the college level. Topics include stages of the writing process and qualities of effective writing, such as structure, style, and considerations of purpose and audience, as well as active reading and listening strategies. Students will also be introduced to differences among writing in various disciplines.
Academic Resources are available on-campus throughout Summer Academy to support each of these classes through the Center for Success, Mathematics Enrichment Center and Writing Center!
